I Am Henry – Art Direction

Rembrandt

The art direction in I Am Henry is influenced by the work of prolific painter, draftsman, and etcher, Rembrandt (1606-1669), who is usually regarded as the greatest artist of Holland’s “Golden Age”.

Rembrandt’s compelling descriptions of light, space, atmosphere, texture and human situations are distinct. Each painting has a way of drawing you in to the scene and keeping you there.

In a similar fashion, cinematographer Simon Rowling beautifully captures these elements in I Am HenryIt’s like observing a collection of Rembrandt’s paintings, and uses a distinct colour palette of black and gold that is reflected in the costume design by Kristen Ernst Brown
